CARLINVILLE, IL – The Panthers women's basketball team ended their three-game losing streak on Saturday with a dominant 77-40 win at Blackburn College. The victory moves Principia to 7-3 in conference play in a tie for third place in the SLIAC standings.
Blackburn came in still winless in conference games, and they continued to struggle against a Panthers squad motivated to get back on track in their final contest before the start of the spring semester. Principia came out firing and scored the first 25 points of the game. The Beavers finally got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter and went on a mini 7-0 run, but the Panthers would continue to grow their lead from there to end the half with a 45-10 advantage.
Principia continued to pour it on in the second half, eventually leading by 52 points midway through the fourth quarter. Blackburn then scored the final 15 points of the game as the Panthers emptied the bench, but the the win was already in hand. The Panthers received balanced scoring across their lineup with six players scoring eight or more.
Ariana Williams (15 points) and
Taylor Brown (13 points) led the way, while
Hannah Myers had a nice game with 11 points and a team-high 5 assists and 5 steals.
The Panthers will head to Louisville on Tuesday for a big matchup with the Spalding Golden Eagles at 5:30 pm ET.
