The volleyball team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to compete against top ranked Spalding and a lower ranked MacMurray. Principia lost to Spalding in three games, and beat MacMurray in four games.
The Principia women started out strong against Spalding. The game plan was secure and the players were executing it beautifully until 15-15, and then it seemed like Principia couldn't find the court offensively. The team was missing wide, missing deep, and suffering from some general miscommunication as well. Spalding's tough serving pushed Principia off kilter a bit too, but one thing was for sure – Principia couldn't find their rhythm again during the match. Bright spots included 100% serving from
Tara Edwards, Katie Duntley, and
Kiersten Andersen, and 10 digs from Edwards as well.
The Panthers struggled at the beginning of the MacMurray match too, but built the match into a decisive victory. It was a much better offensive outing with Principia putting 35 kills down, and the Panther block was active stopping 7 Mac swings at the net. Highlights included 21 digs from
Kiersten Andersen, 10 kills from Katie Duntley, and 6 from
Catherine Speer with a .444 hitting percentage, 2 aces and a perfect 16/16 from the service line for
Teddye Shaffer.
