The volleyball team traveled to Greenville to take on Fontbonne and Greenville in a matchup could alter the SLIAC rankings. Principia played two, two hour matches with the best play of the three seniors' (Katie Duntley, Teddye Shaffer, and Anne Goodrich-Stuart) careers, but couldn't pull off the victories, and lost their chance at qualifying for the SLIAC post season tournament.
Principia took the court against Fontbonne first, and was shell shocked in game one finding themselves at a 3-13 deficit. Principia climbed back into the game one ball at a time, but it was too little, too late. Game two was a different story with Principia hitting 10 first, and climbing all the way to a 25-15 win. Game three showed Principia very quick out of the gate and leading 11-5 before Fontbonne pushed the door open to launch their attack. It was a battle, but Fontbonne came out on top. Game four stayed within a two point lead the ENTIRE time, with the lead changing hands SIX times. What a blow when the game ended 25-27, giving Fontbonne the match.
It was a banner match for seniors Teddye Shaffer, Anne Goodrich-Stuart, and Katie Duntley! These women were solid and inspiring. Katie Duntley had a career high 19 kills (.381), 5 digs, 1 service ace and 3 blocks. Anne Goodrich-Stuart was close behind with 17 kills (.255), 1 ace adn 100% serving, and 18 digs. Teddye Shaffer picked up a match high 20 digs and served 100% with 1 ace.
Principia stepped into the second match against #2 Greenville as a definite underdog. The Principia women didn't let that water down their efforts though. The match scores were 22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, and 10-15. Principia made Greenville work hard for everything, and came close to ruining their day!
Another amazing effort by the seniors - wow! Duntley let the offense with 16 kills hitting a career high .520. She had 4 blocks and 8 digs and 1 service ace as well. Goodrich-Stuart put down 12 kills, served 100% and picked up 18 digs, and Shaffer picked up 20 digs and served a tough 95%. The team served aggressively at 94%.
