Women's Soccer defeat Greenville and Head Coach Lee Ellis collects 200th career win

GREENVILLE, ILL. -- The Principia Women's soccer team celebrates Head Coach Lee Ellis' 200th career win in a 2-0 victory over Greenville College. The Panthers came out to play today and proved it with a Rachel Publicover goal in the 8th minute. The goal came off of a long cross from right back Carlie Sanderude that Publicover was able to settle and power past the diving Greenville keeper.

In the 33rd minute of the game, Kristen Crandall would find Alicia Girbes-Pierce on a through ball that took Girbes-Pierce straight into goal in a 1v1 situation with the goalkeeper. While keeping the recovering defenders on her back, Girbes-Pierce neatly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to put the Panthers up 2-0 for the half.

In the second half, Greenville tried mounting an attack, led by the 2009 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year Mindy Siebert, but Greenville was stifled by the Panther's defense. The few goal scoring opportunities that were taken were collected by Panthers goalkeeper Mel Stein, who collects her first solo shutout of the season.

The game day award winners are Cristina Post, winning the “Lunch Pail” for her hard work defensively while also getting into the attack, and Alicia Girbes-Pierce, winning the “Golden Boot” for her goal and also her dangerous offensive play all game.

Congratulations to Lee Ellis on his 200th Career Win, a milestone amongst Principia College coaches.
