EUREKA ILL. —After a big weekend of volleyball in La Verne, California, the Gold and Blue defeated Eureka College tonight 3-1. Principia expected today's game to be as quick as the 3-0 win they had against Eureka a couple weeks ago, however, Eureka put up a fight and took a set from Principia.
In set one, Principia started slow, giving Eureka points off their passing and hitting errors, but got rid of the kinks as the game continued. Eureka's hit placement and tips messed with Principia's defense and contributed to their victory in set two, but Principia adjusted in set three and picked apart Eureka's defense with their own hit placement.
Summer Switzer earned a career high in tonight's game with nine kills. The ending scores of the four sets were 25-23, 22-25, 25-13, and 25-23.
Leaders of the game for Principia were
Kiersten Andersen (last week's SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week) with twenty-four digs,
Tess Rountree with a .4 hitting percentage (19 kills) and
Christine Nacewicz with .375 (11 kills).
Tara Edwards had forty-five assists and
Jessyca MacMullin earned five blocks total.
The Gold and Blue will return to action this Friday to play Midway at 5:00 p.m. in the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Invitational.
