Principia starts St. Louis College of Pharmacy invitational 2-0

ST. LOUIS, MO.—Principia College Volleyball was successful tonight, beating Midway and St. Louis College of Phamacy 3-0. Everyone on Principia's team agreed that their energy and unity helped their play. After every point, the team came together to focus in as a team, which created great synergy for the night.
 
Midway came out strong with powerful middles and scrappy defense. Principia fought to keep the lead through the whole match. In set one, Midway caught Principia 20-20, 24-24, and 25-25 before Principia finally finished the set, 27-25.  Principia stayed attentive to mixing up their hits and moving on defense. Summer Switzer and Christine Nacewicz led Principia's defense with thirteen and ten digs as they picked up Midway's difficult deep corner shots. Principia's block also kept Midway from scoring. Ending scores were 27-25, 25-21, and 25-16. 

Against St. Louis College of Pharmacy, Principia utilized their multi-dimensional offense, hitting from all positions. Tara Edwards distributed the ball remarkably while remaining an offense threat. Switzer ran the middle effectively with seven kills.  In the third game, STLCOP came from behind to tie Principia 20-20, before Tess Rountree served tough and consistently to pull Principia ahead, 24-20. She earned four aces total this match, along with sixteen digs and eleven kills. In the end Principia won with scores 25-12, 25-14, and 25-21.  

Principia faces Lindenwood Belleville at 10:00 a.m.  tomorrow for day two of  the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Invitational to fight for a spot in the championship match at 1:00 p.m.
