Principia sweeps Westminster in conference season

FULTON, MO.—Tonight the Gold and Blue beat the Westminster Blue Jays for the second time, sweeping them in the conference season. Through the ups and downs of the match, Principia kept a steady attitude and did a nice job of swinging smart and defending with passion.

In game one, Principia took the lead early, killing the open spots right away. They solidified set one's win with fifteen kills and only three errors. However, in set two, Principia couldn't establish a rhythm as early on as set one with a few missed serves and hits into Westminster's block. Principia was behind 6-13 before Christine Nacewicz went to serve. Then the team focused to eliminate errors and earn points one-by-one. Nacewicz served until the score was tied 13-13. Principia's comeback led to a 25-20 win in set two.

In set three, Westminster wasn't going to give up the match easily, and suddenly stifled Principia hitters with a huge blocking presence. The blue jays earned about eight points off of their block, taking the momentum. Principia lost set three, 20-25.

In set four, the Gold and Blue worked to hit around the block and gained four points right away. They widened the scoring gap throughout the set; the ending score was 25-16.

For the match, Christine Nacewicz led serve-receive with twenty-one passes, Summer Switzer led servers with five aces, Kiersten Andersen had twenty-one digs, Tara Edwards had forty-four assists, and Tess Rountree earned twenty-one kills.

The Gold and Blue play at home next against Spalding University and Blackburn College at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
