Principia College Volleyball proves to be fighters in Leopard Invitational

LA VERNE, CALIF. —Today the Gold and Blue battled two tough opponents, Chapman University at 12:00 p.m. and La Verne University at 6:00 p.m. Both teams hit consistently and had the best defense Principia has faced all season. Principia fell short to both teams but played with resilience to prove that they were fighters.

Against Chapman, Principia took two games, which were well earned. Tess Rountree led the offense with twenty-nine kills, a record high. Her powerful swing along with the stellar defense of Principia led to the two successful games. Kiersten Andersen ended with twenty-eight digs total. In game three against Chapman, Principia was down 15-20 before they came back to tie the score 22-22. They kept the momentum and won game three 26-24. In game five, they continued to play all out, but lost in the end 13-15.

At the 6:00 match, La Verne came out strong against Principia and won the first game in a hurry. Summer Switzer and Jessyca MacMullin were great dynamic middles, opening up La Verne's defense for Principia's offense to kill. Kiersten Andersen and Christine Nacewicz led the offense with ten kills, and Andersen and Rountree ended the match with twenty-one digs each. Principia almost had the third game against La Verne with the score tied at 24-24, but fell short 24-26. Tara Edwards finished the day with sixty-nine assists.

Principia College Volleyball would like to thank all their fans who travelled from all around California to see them play. They will travel back to the Midwest on Monday  to play Eureka College on Tuesday, October 12th for their twenty-sixth game of the season.
