ELSAH, ILL.—Tonight the Gold and Blue beat Fontbonne, 3-0, for
Tara Edwards' last regular season match in her college career. Throughout the game, they ran plays that sparked the team, especially when they needed to get out of a slump of errors. In the middle of game one,
Jessyca MacMullin helped Principia get out of a long serve-receive with a big single block, and in game three,
Christine Nacewicz powered a hit right through the seam of the Fontbonne's defense to regain momentum after losing five points off of errors. Each player had shining moments in tonight's match.
Summer Switzer played strong all the way around with her serves, defense, and hits. She gave Principia an early lead in game one and three with her serving. In game one, she took the score to 5-2 and game three she served until the game was 10-1. She also had some nice saves in the back-row, one being a huge sprawl to pick-up a very short tip, and she earned six kills for the match.
Natalie Davenport played all the way around the court in game one and back-row in two and three, bringing energy to the court with her movement and communication. She had ten digs for the match, along with one assist and one kill.
Kiersten Andersen brought intensity to game two with six kills, eight for the match, and had eight digs in game three, ten for the match.
Tess Rountree started the match off with two kills in a row, and continued to pound and pick Fontbonne's defense, earning sixteen kills by the end. Our one and only senior, Tara Edwards hustled over the whole court, earning thirty-three assists along with several block touches and eleven digs for her senior night. Ending scores for tonight were 25-18, 25-19, and 25-20.
Principia will enter into post-season this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Webster University to face Greenville College in the semi-finals of the SLIAC Championship tournament. They finished their regular season tonight just over five-hundred, with a record of 19-18. Come support the Gold and Blue Saturday!
