Lady Panthers remain undefeated in conference after win over Greenville College
Principia College Athletics
ELSAH, ILL. -- Women's tennis just entered conference play and have already proven that they deserve to be at the top. While they are currently tied for first with Webster University, a 3-0 conference record will only help move them up in the standing. Tonight the Panthers faced Greenville College on our home courts, and Principia came out on top 9-0.
As a team the ladies played focused and disciplined tennis in matches that require concentration to keep the ball in play and then force the opponent to make mistakes. This concentration was evident in the fact that Principia only gave up four games in three doubles matches and 12 games in six singles matches.
Some highlights of the match include
Carlie Sanderude continuing a seven match win streak at #1 doubles and a six match win streak at #1 singles. Playing at #2 singles
Hilary Frandsen was on fire with aggressive and consistent groundstrokes. She did not give up a game tonight winning her match 6-0, 6-0.
Marianna Hronek,
Courtney Banko,
Jasmine Carcieri, and
Caroline Korthals all contributed to the win with purposeful shots and few unforced errors. The win demonstrates how deep the Principia tennis team is this year, as our numbers three through six singles can handily win their matches as they did tonight.
Principia also won the three exhibition matches played, #4 doubles Carcieri/Libbe, #7 singles
Haillie Stock, and #8 singles
Heather Libbe. In all three exhibition matches, the ladies gave up only three games, with both singles players winning 6-0, 6-0. These strong exhibition matches again prove the depth this year's tennis team is blessed to have, as we win 1 through 8 singles matches.
The ladies play one more conference match this week, a match which will be against the conference powerhouse Westminster College, currently #3 in the SLIAC conference.
