Box Score 2 ELSAH, ILL. -- The volleyball team faced Blackburn first this morning and came away with a 3-0 win. This victory secured the season sweep over BC. Prin was in the driver's seat from the get-go, and everyone on the squad contributed to the win. Prin had way too many serving errors – 6 aces to 11 errors, but the team made it happen off of serve receive to make up the difference. Prin had a bit of a rough start in game two, committing too many hitting errors, but after a timeout called with the score 13-12 the Panthers went on to be error free and win it 25-13.
Deanna Scheck,
Cha Cha Fisher, and
Emma Herman came off of the bench and were 100% from the service line.
Zoë Mahler subbed in as a right side hitter and had a nice cross court kill.
Tess Rountree hit a season high .609, followed by Sierra hitting .357.
Next up – MacMurray. Prin knew Mac would push them with their quick tempo offense and their scrappiness in the back court, and they did! Game one went to Mac 25-23. Mac had 11 kills in game one, Prin 7. Prin worked to find some stillness in the game two, and it was a different experience. As Prin played with a peacefulness, Mac started to falter and had eight hitting errors (21%) compared to Prin's 13% error. It was a back and forth game until some "in-a-row" serving happened and Prin's defense was backing up the serves to pull ahead 10-7, 14-8, 21-10, and finally 25-11. MacMurray was not backing down though, and game three was anyone's to win. Prin would gain a small lead, and then MacMurray would battle back – again and again. Prin took game two with a hitting percentage of .275 compared to Mac's .148. Moving into game four, both teams were getting after it. The game was tied at 10-10, 13-13, and then Mac pulled ahead 16-13. Prin played some courageous defense and tied it up again 17-17, 20-20, and then Prin showed nice power and IQ in their offensive execution to finish the match with a 25-22 game four win.
Even though Prin served a lower than usual 88%, they served up eight aces –
Jessica Bushong with 3,
Sierra Sprague 2, and Summer and Savanna each with 1. This was not a great serve receive outing for the Panthers either, but quarterback
Savanna Sprague and the hitters played a smart match with just over 10% error and outhit Mac .135 to .068. This match was incredibly exciting with both teams playing soul-full defense, diving and chasing and refusing to let each other score easy points. The defensive standard kept getting higher as the team banded together to keep Mac's quick offense in check, and Sierra ended up with 21 digs and Summer 20. Jess Bushong hit .300 for the match followed by Tess at .269.
Prin travels to Greenville on Tuesday to take on the #1 Panthers.
