Volleyball leaves it all on the court

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 St. Louis, MO. -- The women fought for over two hours against a hard hitting Fontbonne team. The deciding game to 15 was tied at every point after 10, with the Griffins outlasting Principia 22-20 to earn the "w". The Panthers combined for 57 kills, with Sophia Hathaway and Sierra Sprague leading the attack with 18 and 12 respectively. All of the hitters were swinging successfully and the offense was diverse, and they finished the match with only 9% error of 179 swings. The team served well with Mia Gill recording a team-leading 4 aces and three Panthers were 100% from the line – Sophia, Sierra, and Emily Tippetts. The defense was working hard trying to frustrate the Griffin big hitters. The backcourt proved gritty as they picked up 111 digs. Sierra and Mia each had 27 digs, and Sophia and Emma Herman recorded 20 and 17.

After a 30 minute break, Principia took on Webster University.  Webster is one of the best defensive teams – making it quite hard to kill the ball. Principia lost 14-25, 22-25, 23-25. The Panthers stuck with their game plan and picked up the pace of their offense. The team was bold and dauntless, playing with a never-say-die mentality. As the Panthers pushed the pace of their offense, they did a great job of keeping the ball in play with low errors. However, Webster's defense was gritty and the Panthers just couldn't put enough balls on the floor to compete for the win.

The Panthers host MacMurray this Tuesday at 7pm. There will be FREE Panther Volleyball t-shirts give away!
