Los Angeles, CA--Principia women's tennis started their spring break tennis tour of Southern California with a heartbreak loss to Occidental College. The match at #5 singles decided the final outcome and it went to the wire. Sophomore,
Caitlin Carney, won the first set 6-2 and was 2-2 in the second when her opponent started to attack the net more consistently. The games were long and teeter-tottered back and forth: deuce-add, but Carney was not able to close out the set. The third set tie-breaker was cinched with a forehand volley winner. Both players played well in the tight match.
Hanne Andersen won at #1 singles with accurate placement of her shots.Â
Claire Horton playing #4 singles also played consistent tennis and earned many of her points from her quick and steady play.Â
Lena Carlson, #6 singles also won with her penetrating topspin groundstrokes.
In doubles, Occidental took the first two matches but
Lena Carlson and
Nathalie DeLoach pulled out a good win at #3 doubles.  The complete match scores are listed below.
Tomorrow at 11:00 AM, the Principia women's tennis team play Cal Tech in Pasadena, California.
