Box Score 2 Elsah, IL. -- The Panthers took on Spalding at 10 am, and earned the victory 3-1. At 2pm the Panthers competed against Blackburn and recorded another 3-1 win making them 2-0 in SLIAC play.
Against Spalding the Panthers were in complete control of game one from the beginning until the 25-15 final. Game two the Panthers found themselves in a 2-6 hole, but they climbed out ball by ball to tie it up 10-10. It was back and forth until Principia gained a foothold behind consistent tough team serving and won it 25-21. Spalding came alive out of the middle for a few scoring spurts, and a few too many Prin errors led to SU taking game three 23-25. It looked like the lady Panthers made a decision at this point, and Prin went on a scoring run behind great serving from
Emma Herman (including 4 aces) and a solid defensive effort by the team.
Sophia Hathaway,
Sara Stephenson, and
Molly Moser pumped the offense up with 16, 6, and 5 kills respectively. Â Twenty digs from
Sierra Sprague, and blocking execution from Sophia,
Lily Richards,
Noelle Shoemake, and
Emily Tippetts helped the Panthers' transition game tremendously. The Principia passers were stellar against Spalding with everyone over 2.0 (3.0).Â
In the match against Blackburn, everyone got some playing time and did nice things on the court! After dropping game one, Principia found their stride and won in a decisive way 25-12, 25-14, 25-18. It was another great outing for the passers, and solid ball control combined with 95% team serving proved a great foundation for revving up our offense. Sierra led the offensive charge with 11 kills, and Sophia and Lily added 7 and 5 respectively. Four Panthers were in double digits for digs, with Sierra tallying 20 for the second time today.
The Panthers host SLIAC Westminster College Tuesday 9/15 at 7pm in Hay. Come cheer them on!!
