Principia College Beach Volleyball Debut in Alabama

Mobile, AL. -- With only two NCAA Division III teams in the nation competing in Beach, the Principia Beach Volleyball team hit the road to take on some bigger scholarship schools to get their season started. Principia competed in three matches over the last two days, kicking the season off against University of Mobile. The doubles teams representing Principia were #1 Emma Herman and Sierra Sprague, #2 Cha Cha Fisher and Emelie Fredrikson, #3 Deanna Scheck and Sophia Hathaway, #4 Makena Patterson and Jami Wissman, and #5 Zoe Mahler and Molly Dixon.

The Rams of University of Mobile were very athletic and tough competitors. The Panthers were scrappy on defense and served tough, but had a hard time putting balls down and gaining momentum with their offense, and in the end Mobile grabbed the "w". Play of the day honors go to Emelie for an amazing save sprinting off the back side of the court, followed by Cha with a one armed hook shot over the net for the point!

On Wednesday the Panthers took on Division I University of North Florida first. The #4 team was Zoe Mahler and Makena Patterson and the #5 team was Jami Wissman and Molly Dixon today. UNF was big and played quite a powerful game. They were multi-tool players that brought Principia up to a higher level of play. The Panthers did a good job of passing the Osprey's serves, but got stuck in mid court too much to create an effective offense. Kudos to all teams for raising their game a few notches to get the most out of this match.

The last match of the day was against host Spring Hill College. Today was the dedication of their beautiful new lighted Beach Volleyball facility, and they had an impressive home crowd supporting them. Spring Hill is in their 2nd year competing in Beach, and Prin was able to glean some valuable insights into next steps for our teams. Prin had some very specific offensive goals going into this match, and progress was evident with each of our teams.

Although the Panthers don't have any victories under their belt yet, they are figuring the sport out and completely hooked! Each of Prin's doubles teams showed marked progress and knows what their next steps are.  It's time to get to work!
