Elsah, ILL. --In their first match win of 2017 the women's team defeats Lake Forest in a 5-4 win.
Paige Cooley and
Nathalie DeLoach each earned 2 points for the team. Freshman
Brittany Duke playing the #6 position won the match for Principia when the team score was tied at 4-4. Principia's #2 doubles team of
Anh Vu and
Gracie Buchanan played together for the first time in competition and could not find their rhythm, losing 8-3.
Paige Cooley and
Caitlin Carney, Principia's #1 duo, fell behind 6-5 but then broke serve and held to take the lead and close out the doubles and get Principia on the scoreboard.
Nathalie DeLoach and
Zoe Boyman, Principia's #3 duo, lost their lead and found themselves in a battle at 5-5. Then they played more aggressively and closed the net to take the next three games.
Principia was able to win at #1, #5, and #6 singles fairly decisively. Paige finished her match without giving up a game. Paige dominated with her forcing groundstrokes.
Nathalie DeLoach, #5 singles, was like a backboard. She did not miss a shot and her backhand was nails.
Brittany Duke, #6 singles, was decisive with her groundstrokes which allowed her to come to the net and close out most points at the net.
The team stays in Chicago for the night and will play John Carroll and University of Chicago on Saturday. Both teams have highly ranked players and Chicago is ranked top 10 in the country. We will be playing our matches indoors at Xs tennis 4701 E 47th st, come out and cheer on the team!
