St. Louis, MO– The Principia Men's Tennis team traveled down to St. Louis today to take on the Webster University Gorloks in a SLIAC conference battle. Like their previous two SLIAC matches, the Panthers were able to go up 3-0 after doubles play and take control of the match. Principia cruised from there as they came away with the 9-0 victory over Webster.
At 1
st doubles,
Greg Sovie and
Brody Swan continued their run of excellent play. With their booming serves and great hands at the net, Sovie and Swan kept their opponents at bay on their way to an 8-2 win. At 2
nd doubles,
Jules Kitchingman and
Nat Kenworthy are looking more and more comfortable out there together. They are consistent on the ground and finishing well at the net. They won 8-0. At 3
rd doubles,
Dan Wagstaff and
Peter Griswold took an early 3-0 lead. After allowing the match to get to 3-3, Wagstaff and Griswold calmly reeled off five straight games to win 8-3.
At 1
st singles,
Jules Kitchingman dominated from the start, on his way to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. At 2
nd singles,
Greg Sovie was able to finish well at the net, winning 6-1, 6-0. At 3
rd singles,
Nat Kenworthy had some trouble closing out his opponent, but came through in the second set tiebreaker as he won 6-0, 7-6 (5).
At 4
th singles,
Brody Swan started a little slow, but finished strong on his way to the 6-3, 6-0 win. At 5
th singles,
Dan Wagstaff was able to dictate play with his powerful groundstrokes as he won 6-1, 6-1. At 6
th singles,
Peter Griswold continued his improvement with a solid 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Principia is now 3-0 in SLIAC play and 7-6 overall on the season. The Panthers have their final SLIAC regular season match against Greenville College on Tuesday, April 11
th at 5:00 PM. The match is a home match and will either be played on Morey Courts or in the Hexberg Tennis Center. Come out and support the Men's Tennis Team as they try to clinch the #1 seed in the SLIAC Tournament.
