Elsah, ILL. -- Principia College hosted a double header matchup for soccer today against Simpson from Iowa. Both schools and both men's and women's teams played back-to-back days on one of the hottest weekends we've had this year.
Â
Principia started the game strong. The air was hot and heavy and this may have contributed to what turned into a lack-luster first half. The Principia women conceded their first goal in the 17th minute on a low, near-post shot. Simpson's second goal found it's way into the back of the net in the 30th minute.
Â
The second half started out as a different story. The Panthers cut the lead in half on a rocket of a goal from
Sarai Marcano in the 59th minute following two great passes from
Clarice Bruch and Chrissie Fredrikson. However, that was short-lived as Simpson responded not once or twice but with three goals of their own in the next 15 minutes. Principia, not wanting the game to end without more, found a way to find the back of the net one final time with a beautiful goal from
Brittany Ouellette in the final minutes of play. The final was 5-2.
Â
A look at the box score:
Principia continues to be out-shot, but this game the Panthers posted 14 shots - a vast improvement.
Â
They said it:
"This game was more disappointing than the others. We allowed the uncontrollables, like the heat, to affect us. We did not play our best as a unit and that simply can not happen. Playing our best leads to good things and the ultimate definition of success. We will start back at that on Monday."Â
