Decatur, ILL. -- In tonight's match up, the Principia Panthers played the Millikin Big Blue at Millikin University. The Panthers started off playing good defense, keeping it compact in the middle and marking up. In the 6th minute, the Big Blue had a shot off around the 25 yard line that led to a goal. Continuing strong while being down 1-0, the Panthers kept on battling it out on defense, disrupting the Big Blue's offensive motion. In the 8th minute, however, the Big Blue responded with a corner kick which led to another Millikin goal.
Libby Lewis had a great first diving save, but flurry movement in the box put the ball in the back of the Panther's goal. The first half ended with the Big Blue leading 2-0.
Going into the second half, the Panthers made a tactical adjustment to their formation and came out with a little more intensity. This provided the women to play their offensive game as well as their defensive. With the blistering hot sun out, both teams took a water break in the 61st minute. As each team went back out on the field and play resumed, not shortly after the whistle blew the Big Blue answered with another goal-- making the score 3-0. The Panthers did not let up another goal all half making the final score Millikan 3, Principia 0.
Key moment:
In the second half,
Clarice Bruch intercepted a Millikin pass in their defensive half to create a one-on-one situation with the keeper. Unfortunately, Clarice's shot was saved, thwarting the 2-1 comeback. Shout out to senior,
Clarice Bruch, for playing another spectacular game.
