The Principia College soccer program hosted a double header today against Monmouth College. The women played the second game of the day under the lovely midwest sun.
Â
The first half of the game provided an opportunity for Monmouth to take the lead. After goalkeeper
Brooke Engel made some quality first and second effort saves, finally the Scots put one past. The Panthers responded in minutes, capitalizing on a quick short corner that led to a scuffle in the box and
Sarai Marcano getting the final touch on the ball. However, Monmouth was not done and Principia found themselves going into the second half down 4-1.
Â
The second half was better for Principia. Despite conceding two more goals for the game,
Emelie Fredrikson found the far upper corner on a solid strike from the top of the box.
Vanessa Ramirez-Jasso stepped in as a goalkeeper for 20 minutes and made several saves highlighted by a penalty kick save.
Â
Key moment:
Emelie Fredrikson's goal of the second half really amped up the team and more opportunities came through.
Â
They said it:
"We need to continue to work on our job protecting our goalkeeper and goal - whether that be blocking shots or more importantly stopping breakaways."
