Elsah, ILL. -- The Women's Basketball team hosted Greenville University, a SLIAC opponent. Greenville qualified for the post season tournament this last year and came into this contest with a 3-1 record. The Panthers knew it would be a tough game but were ready for the challenge. Although outscored 44 – 25 in the first half, Principia stayed with Greenville in rebounding with 12 rebounds to their 13.
Nikki Matters was 3 for 4 in the first half from the 3 pt arc. Turnovers still continue to be an area where the Panthers need to improve, but by the end of the game the team had 18, which is fewer than they have had in recent games. The Panthers appreciated the Greenville University team joining in on the pre-game event, "It's On Us".
Good to Know:
Sabrina Netherwood was recognized by her teammates for her strong boxing out throughout the game.
Nikki Matters led in scoring with 19 and Sophia had 16 for the game. Sophia led the team in rebounds with 7. None of the Panthers got into foul trouble.
They said it:
"This was definitely our best game of the season. We knew Greenville would be a tough opponent but our goals were to play good fundamental basketball, box out, and have fun. The team definitely had fun playing this game. The improvement in some of our players who have not played a lot in the past years was a highlight to me as a coach."
