Elsah, ILL. – The Women's Basketball team hosted Iowa Wesleyan in their last game before the holiday break. The Panthers were outscored 18-11 in the first quarter but came back to win the second quarter with 17 points and Iowa Wesleyan only scoring 7. The second half was tight with the Panthers coming out ahead by 2 and winning their first game of the season. The fans enjoyed a shot by
Sophia Hathaway in the 4
th quarter that was taken while she was lying on the court floor. She threw the ball up towards the basket before the shot clock expired....and…..SCORE! Principia out-rebounded Iowa Wesleyan 40-37 and cut their turnovers the second half and caused many for Iowa.
Good to Know:
Nikki Matters led the Panthers in scoring with 22 points and was 3 for 7 from the 3 pt. arc.
Sophia Hathaway had 16 points and 14 rebounds. All of the players contributed to the win.
Liz McAloney had some big breakaway steals and
Sabrina Netherwood once again had a great game on the boards with 8 rebounds.
They said it:
"This is a game one won't forget. Not only because of a great win, but because of the comments by team members after the game. This entire team works so well together, whether in the game or on the bench. It is the last game for senior
Liz McAloney and tough to say good-bye to family members on this team. A great way to end the first half of basketball season before Christmas break. "
