Terre Haute, IN. -- Women's soccer traveled to Terre Haute Indiana and faced off against the Rose Hulman Fighting Engineers. It was a hot day with temperatures in the high 90s. Despite the heat the Panthers showed well in the first half demonstrating good defensive shape and composure with the ball. However, in the 12th minute the engineers capitalized on their first opportunity and capped 2 more goals before the end of the half, leaving the Panthers at a 3 goals deficit at half time.Â
The second half the Engineers came out stronger forcing the Panthers to play more on their defensive third. The Principia back line did well to foil their breakaway attempts. Center backs, Kiona Sperr and Tara Adhikari, both blocked numerous shots. Panthers had a scoring opportunity when Sarai Marcano craftily played a ball to teammate Edner Oloo for a break away opportunity but was stopped by the Engineer goalkeeper. Despite the Panther's defensive and offensive efforts the engineers were able to score 3 more goals to win the game 6-0.Â
They said it:
"We are starting to play as a team which is really exciting. Everyone showed a lot of grit today and I'm looking forward to progressing more this season."
