Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball struggles against a tough Spalding sqad

Louisville, KY. – The Women's Basketball team traveled to Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.  This is the second time Principia has played Spalding this season and the Eagles are a good team, playing tenacious defense and shooting well from the 3 point line.  Principia went into halftime down by 27.  The Eagles were so tough on the boards out-rebounding Principia 54-26.  Spalding scored 38 points in the paint and the offensive rebounds gave them 21 second chances.  Principia did cut down their turnovers with only 16 for the game, but did not shoot well from the field and was only 3 for 15 from the 3 point line.

Good to Know:
Sophia Hathaway and Nikki Matters led in scoring with 16 points each.  Sophia also had 8 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.  The Panthers were 7 for 8 from the charity line, shooting 87% for the day.

They said it:
"Spalding is a very good team, with 5 players scoring in double figures.  But what hurt us the most today was their play on the boards.  You can't win a game when you allow your opponent 24 offensive rebounds.  I was pleased with our effort and our free throw shooting."

The Panthers have another away game at Webster University on Tuesday, January 21st at 5:30 pm.
