Elsah, ILL. – The Women's Basketball team hosted Stephens College from Columbia, Mo. in their second game of the year. Stephens outscored the Panthers 8-21 in the first quarter but Principia came back in the second quarter to bring the game within 5 points. Starting point guard
Nikki Matters was on the bench with 3 fouls in the second quarter. In the third quarter, Stephens went ahead 54-43.
Georgia Rather fouled out in the 4
th quarter and although the Panthers got within 8 points, Stephens pulled away and won 75-57. Principia did a much better job the second half on the boards and ended up with 35 rebounds. Turnovers were a problem as the Panthers committed 29 to compared to 13 for Stephens. Once again, Principia shot well from the free throw line, shooting 83% while Stephens was 15-16 from the line.
Good to Know:
Sophia Hathaway was the high scorer for the Panthers with 22 points and 9 rebounds.
Nikki Matters contributed 21 points.
Freshman
Madi Leslie led the team with 10 rebounds.
They said it:
"We knew this was going to be a tough game, but we saw progress in our play. We need to work on better defense and staying out of foul trouble. Stephens pressed us almost the entire game and the ladies did a good job handling the press. We look forward to our game on Friday against Lincoln Christian University."
