The Principia Panthers traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for Spring Break. The Panthers played two games in Myrtle Beach today, one against Sarah Lawrence and another game against Frostburg State.
Â
Game 1: Principia 9 Sarah Lawrence 12
The Panthers faced Lawrence in their first game over spring break and both teams came out firing and ready to win. Both teams played with a solid offense and defense through seven innings.
Â
The Panthers played a great defensive game with
Leah Schaefer starting on the mound. The team struggled with several errors throughout the game that caused the game to either be tied or put Lawrence on top. Lawrence was able to hit the ball hard where Prin's defense had a hard time getting to it and they would put up a run after a run. There were, however, several great plays made throughout the game that helped the defense.
Â
The Panthers struggled to get the bats going but once they did they were able to find the gaps and hit the ball hard. In the second and sixth inning the Panthers put up four runs while in the fifth they only put up one. Both freshman
Delaney Gatine and junior
Hannah Hathaway hit triples and
Lauren Daugherty and Hathaway both had doubles in the game.
Â
Game 2: Principia 0 Frostburg State 17
After the first game the Panthers struggled in the second one both defensively and offensively. Despite the lopsided score, the Panthers never gave up and they worked hard throughout the entire game. Each player did their best on defense and on offense.
Â
The Panthers made a few changes to their defense with
Alyssa Hudenburg starting as pitcher and
Leah Schaefer playing third base. The defense had a hard time taking in easy ground balls and making simple outs, and in six innings they had 10 errors. Frostburg State hit some hard balls that were tough to control. The Panthers fought hard each inning, no matter how hard the inning seemed to be.
Â
When it came to offense, Principia had a hard time hitting off of the Frostburg State pitcher. She was a bit faster than the pitcher in the game before and the adjustments were not made fast enough. The Panthers got on base a few times from errors and walks. Although there were no Panther hits, one thing for sure though is that they went up and battled each at bat.
Â
The Panthers continue with their Spring Break Games in Myrtle Beach with games at 9:30am and 1:30pm! Â
