Game Recap: Softball |

Principia Softball drops two games to Greenville University

Elsah, ILL. - Today the Panthers faced Greenville, a well-coached team with great athletes. Principia knew that this was going to be a challenging game but they were ready give it all they had. Greenville was unstoppable at the plate and their defense was solid with great pitching. On the other hand, Principia had a hard time hitting and playing defense.

Game 1: Principia 2 Greenville 16
In game one, Principia started off well and ended the game playing well but they struggled in the middle to keep Greenville off the bases. On the offensive side, the Panthers started off strong by replying with a run after Greenville put up four on the board in the first inning. After that though, the Panthers didn't score again until the last inning, where they only put up one more run. Several players made it on base but had a hard time coming home to score. Delaney Gatine and Lauren Daugherty both had one double each and Hannah Hathaway had two doubles. Alyssa Hudenburg, Hathaway and Ashley Noville all had singles.

Defensively, the Panthers only had a few solid innings. There were several mistakes made that didn't help the team get out of sticky situations. Greenville was able to find the gaps in the defense and there were several well hard hit balls out to the green. Leah Schaefer did everything she could on the mound but needed a break at the end of the game, so Alyssa Hudenburg jumped in to end the game.

Game 2: Principia 1 Greenville 20
In the next game, not much changed from the first. Greenville had 21 hits in the game and was not slowing down at all. The Panthers did score once again in the first inning, but it was not enough. Hathaway and Daugherty were the only two players with hits, both having doubles. On defense, the Panthers once again had a hard time making easy outs to get themselves out of long innings. The Panthers struggled a lot tonight, but they got their outs and moved on. Schaefer started off the game again and Hudenburg came in and finished it.

Up Next:
The Panthers will hopefully be able to play on Thursday against Blackburn, but the games may be changed due to weather.
