Elsah, IL. – The Women's Basketball team hosted Fontbonne University for their final game of the season. It was a special game as the seniors were honored prior to the game. At the beginning of the game we thanked
Sophia Hathaway,
Nikki Matters, and
Maddie Wann for all their contributions to Principia Women's Basketball. After a hard battle, the Fontbonne Griffins won the contest. This was due to forced turnovers and taking 13 more shots than the Panthers. Fontbonne shot 44% from the field and Principia shot 40%, but Fontbonne made 12 three-point shots and too many breakaway layups. Principia outrebounded Fontbonne and was 7 for 7 from the free throw line.
Good to Know:
Nikki Matters was so close to a triple double with 25 points, 9 assists and 9 rebounds. Sophia scored 21 and had 7 blocked shots and 12 rebounds.
Beka Petersen played a great defensive game with 5 steals.
They said it:
"It was a bittersweet moment as the game came to an end. It has been a tough season if you look at the wins and losses, but I have never been associated with a greater group of young women. They are caring, unselfish, funny, hard-working and they all have the never give up attitude. I will surely miss seeing them every day. I also thank my assistant coaches,
Laura Williams and
Leslie Shelton, who made coaching this season so much fun."
