Women's Soccer scores two late goals to beat Blackburn

Box Score

Carlinville, IL. – The Principia women's soccer team traveled to Carlinville, Illinois, to play Blackburn College Beavers. This game was a crucial game to win in order to stay in the hunt for a postseason berth into the SLIAC Tournament.

Tonight's match was a whole team effort – everyone was doing their job well in the game. The Beavers started the game with a goal in the first 5 minutes on a free-kick outside the box. However, despite the early goal, the Panthers showed great composure in the attack. They never gave up hope, kept attacking, and their efforts were rewarded. In the 86th minute, Lili Mattia scored to tie the game, assisted by Sophie Hills. Not long after, Allie Bane scored the winning goal in the 89th minute with a beautiful low left corner shot that went right under the Beavers goalkeeper.

"Blackburn played tough defense, making us work for our win today. I'm very proud of the composure shown by the players and effort to win the game," commented Head Coach Meagan Fleming

Up Next: The Panthers will travel to Eureka, Illinois, to play Eureka College on Tuesday, October 19th at 5:00 PM.
