ELSAH, IL - The Principia Men's Basketball Team opened their 2021-22 campaign at home against a formidable opponent in Illinois College. Despite jumping out to the early 5 point lead, the Panthers could not generate enough offense and succumbed to the Blue Boys, 73-55.
The Panthers came out with great energy in front of their home crowd for their first game in two seasons. Principia could not get in any rhythm on offense as they shot just 27% in the first half. Despite the first game jitters, the Panthers came out with a great deal of energy in the second half and cut the lead to 15. Clark Davidson had a massive dunk over an Illinois College player, which got the crowd into it, but it was too little too late, as the Panthers fell 73-55.
Despite the loss, Principia shot 43% in the second half and won the second half 34-31. After getting their rhythm from two years away, the Panthers have some solid momentum going into their next week of practice and the rest of their season.
Good to know: Shemarri Miles led all Principia scorers with 15 points in his first game in a Panther uniform. Clark Davidson chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds. Four Panthers made their Principia debut, including Miles, Jake Kampf, Riley Speidel, and Mar'Quidric Cerda.
