Women's Tennis Shannon Carney

Principia Panthers Mauled by Franklin Grizzlies

Elsah, IL—Principia women's tennis hosted the Franklin Grizzlies and had big wins at #1 and #3 singles but lost the match 5-4.

A Look at the Match
Principia's #1 singles player, Kelsie Huss, defeated her opponent soundly with her quick foot speed and great defense. Kelsie was able to reach every ball her opponent hit and mixed up dipping passing shots with deft lobbing. She only allowed her opponent one game. At #3 singles, Paige Lesko, played a grueling match with steady play by both players which led to long points and great gets. Both players put there all into this close match which Paige was able to win 7-5,6-4.

Good to Know
The teams practice this week helped prepare them for the doubles play. Hannah Switzer and Paige Lesko, our #2 doubles, got behind 7-2 and came back to 7-6 but were not able to even the match and lost 8-6.  At #5 singles, Emma Hanser, related how she was able to run down a lob and return it for a winner.

Coach Quote
"Today was the perfect tennis day and the team enjoyed the tough matches and the outdoor play. It was great to see each player meet a challenge within the match, from running down a lob, to overcoming emotions or the temptation to give up. Each player had a win on the court even though it might not have been reflected in the score."

Up Next- On Thursday April 1, 2021 at 4:30pm the Panthers are playing their first conference match at Greenville College.
