Women's Tennis Loses Hard Fought Battle to Hendrix

ELSAH, IL - The Principia Women's Tennis team hosted the Hendrix College Warriors today. The team played well despite losing a close match 5-4.

The morning started off with doubles, but Principia was only able to capture the #1 doubles point. Camila Gomez and Gaby Quintero played a great match to win 8-6. The other two doubles matches did not go Principia's way as Hendrix picked up an early advantage.

Gomez, Principia's #1 singles, won her match decisively by hitting her crushing ground strokes off both sides. Quintero, #2 singles, continued the dominance of strong ground strokes with a straight set win over her opponent. Kelsie Huss, #4 singles, won Principia's fourth match with crafty and consistent play.

Principia was tied 4-4 going into the final match at #6 singles. Ruth Hummell had a shaky start to the match, but she was able to put her practice commitment into place and played a close second set. It was fun to watch the turnaround in her game and see her fight hard and push her opponent. A few big aces from her opponent in the final game sealed the match for Hendrix.
