ELSAH, IL - The Women's Tennis team faced the Alma College Scots on Tuesday, who traveled here from Michigan for their Spring Break.
The Panthers took an early lead in the match by winning two out of the three doubles. Our #1 duo,
Camila Gomez and
Gaby Quintero, dominated play and shut out their opponents 8-0.
Kelsie Huss and
Veronica Volkart are still working to find the right strategy to complement each other's strengths as they had a tough go at #2 doubles.
Caroline Carlson and
Ruth Hummell found their partnership today and played well together. Caroline's strong serving provided Ruth the opportunity to poach and put away volleys and overheads.
In singles, Principia won four of the six matches. Gomez, #1 singles, and Huss, #3 singles, continued their dominating winning ways. Gomez hit forcing serves and ground strokes, and Huss forced the play with her steadiness, quickness, and crafty slices. Veronica, #4 singles, earned a win with steady play and by coming to the net to finish points. Hummell, #6 singles, played with consistency and accuracy as she came back from a 2-5 deficient in the second set to finish out the match 6-2, 7-5. She was resilient, kept to her committed actions, and brought her game up a level to make the comeback. In the exhibition singles match,
Emma Franklin earned another win through execution of her solid ground strokes.
