HILTON HEAD, SC - After their Wednesday match was rained out, the Principia Women's Tennis team returned to the court in the Hilton Head Island Spring Tennis Fest on Thursday afternoon against St. Mary's College of Maryland.
The women's doubles teams played well and got the Panthers off to a nice start, winning two of the three matches. Camila Gomez and Veronica Volkart, playing #1 doubles, took an early lead with strong returns and finished off their opponents 8-3. Gaby Quintero and Kelsie Huss worked well together setting each other up at net in their 8-5 win. At #3 doubles, Caroline Carlson and Ruth Hummell lost in a tiebreaker. Emma Franklin and Emma Hanser played an exhibition doubles match and closed out their opponents 8-1.
The Panthers moved on to singles and swept all six matches to defeat the Seahawks 8-1 overall. Five out of six matches were straight set victories, while Carlson won an exciting match at #5 in an 11-9 tiebreak thriller. Another highlight was Volkart returning to winning form at #4 singles with steady play and coming into the net to finish off points. Franklin and Hanser also won their exhibition singles matches.

Up Next: The Principia women had a Friday schedule change for their final spring break match and will now play Lancaster Bible College at 1:00 pm ET at Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort (40 Folly Field Rd).
