Veronica Volkart has been awarded the SLIAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, and senior
Daniel Gomez has been awarded the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for April 18-24!
Veronica Volkart had a memorable day last Monday with two impressive comeback wins against Lewis & Clark at #3 singles and #1 doubles. Volkart normally plays #4 singles, but moved up to #3 due to a teammate out of the lineup. Playing a tough singles opponent, she dropped the first set and fell behind 3-1 in the second. She did not give up and was able to turn things around, winning five straight games to take the set 6-3. She carried her momentum and fighting spirit into the third set tiebreak with a 10-7 victory. Camila Gomez came back from a 7-5 deficit to win 8-7. These were Volkart's first come from behind victories of her young collegiate career.
Daniel Gomez cruised to two comfortable wins at #1 singles and doubles against Westminster on Tuesday en route to his his third Player of the Week award of the season. Since it was Senior Night and Westminster onl brought two players, the doubles win was the first time in Gomez's career teaming up with fellow senior
Elliott Matthiesen.
The men's team has a big road conference match against Greenville on Tuesday at 4:30 pm. The women's next match will be at Westminster on May 3rd at 4:30 pm.
