GREENVILLE, IL - The Principia Men's Tennis team traveled to Greenville University on Tuesday for their biggest regular season match of the season. Greenville has had a strong season and came in as Principia's biggest threat for the conference title. The winner of the match would secure the top seed going into the SLIAC tournament.
After Principia lost 8-3 at #3 doubles, they got a solid 8-5 win from
Rafter Sprague and
William Johnson at #2 doubles to even the match at 1-1.
Daniel Gomez and
Juan Segovia had a tough day at #1 doubles as they took the first conference loss of their careers, 8-5.
The Panthers' lone singles win came from Gomez at #1 in straight sets. Sprague played well on court 3 against a strong opponent, but gave away too many points to get the win.
Everett Poznick had solid stretches against a big server at #6, but couldn't get any breaks. Segovia was the last to finish after the overall match had been decided. Unfortunately, he fell 10-4 in a third set tiebreak, making it a 7-2 overall win for Greenville.
This ends Principia's 29 match win streak in conference, marking their first SLIAC loss since 2016.
