ELSAH, IL – Principia tennis has started off the 2023 season with a bang! After dominant wins on Saturday, both the Men's and Women's Tennis teams have earned the first UMAC South Division Tennis Players of the Week. Freshman
Saray Hernandez Cisneros has been awarded the Women's Player of the Week, while senior
Juan Segovia has been awarded the Men's Player of the Week.
This is basically the same award as the SLIAC Player of the Week as the UMAC South Division consists of the four former SLIAC tennis teams from Principia, Greenville, Webster, and Westminster.
Cisneros had a very strong showing on Saturday against UHSP. She began the day cruising to an 8-1 win at #2 doubles with fellow freshman partner,
Kimbeley Peterson. Cisneros followed that up with 6-2, 6-2 victory at #2 singles, hitting powerful winners with both her forehand and backhand. She was the only women on the Panthers to win two matches on the day.
Segovia played the #1 spot for both doubles and singles, finishing with two comfortable wins over UHSP. Teaming up with freshman
Kuda Sandi for the first time, the pair played well together and won 8-3. Then Segovia sailed to a 6-1, 6-2 victory in his singles match against UHSP's top player.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, February 11. The men host Simpson and Illinois Wesleyan for a tri-match beginning at 9:00 am CT, while the women travel to DePauw for a 7:00 pm ET start.
