The Principia Women's Soccer Team hosted their first home game of the season tonight, under the lights, against St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Â
The Panthers had a rough beginning with STCOP getting off the first shot. Playing slow and with no sense of urgency resulted in 16 shots by the Panthers but very few posing any real danger for the Eutectics' keeper. In the 31st minute, Chrissie Fredrikson got what would be the game-winning goal to put Principia ahead, 1-0 going into halftime.
Â
The second half was a different story with the Panthers going at speed and with creativity in the attack. The result was 5 more goals in a matter of 20 minutes:
Sarai Marcano,
Madison Arens,
Chrissy Fredrikson (2), Alex Weitman and
Lindsay Clarke. In her first collegiate appearance in goal,
Brooke Engel posted two saves and foiled several attacks.
Â
Key moment:
Five minutes into the second half,
Lily Bermel hit a rocket off the cross bar that was finished by Marcano.
Â
Good to know:
Five different scorers and assists from 4 different players (
Clarice Bruch,
Annika Friborg,
Lily Bermel (2),
Chrissy Fredrikson (2)). This was
Meagan Fleming's first win as a head coach!
Â
They said it:
"We really picked it up in the second half. This led to some great combinations and finishing. It was a great first home game."
      -
Emelie Fredrikson, captain

Up next:
The Panthers host Monmouth at 3pm on Saturday as the second part of a double-header with the men.
