Elsah, ILL. -- Principia College Women's Soccer hosted the Spalding Golden Eagles for their homecoming match on a beautiful, albeit windy, day.
The first half was a constant battle back and forth. Principia had the wind but couldn't finish. Some quality possession and attack created a few good opportunities but nothing that the Panthers could get in the back of the net. Halftime found both teams wanting goals but the score was 0-0.
The Eagles finally found the net in the second half putting the Panthers on their back heels. Not too long after, they put away their second goal. Principia, despite having played some quality soccer defending and protecting the keeper and goal while also stringing passes together, began to look a bit defeated. A free kick by
Brittany Ouellette in the offensive third led to a goal for Principia by
Sophie Hills. Principia perked up again and continued to attack. Defense remained strong with
Rachel McLeod-Warrick making some keys saves. Protected by
Tara Adhikari,
Kiona Sperr,
Taylan Hayes and Hills, Principia tried to equalize. In the final seconds Madi Arens was just a little too far from the goal to find the back of the net. Spalding held on for the 2-1 win.
Principia travels to Westminster on Tuesday for their last away game of the season.
