Game Recap: Softball |

Softball splits with St. Louis College of Pharmacy

Elsah, ILL. -- In a good fight with the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics, the Panthers took game one and fell short offensively to drop game two.

Game 1: Principia 7, Pharmacy 4
Game one was a game of highs and lows for the Panthers. Defensively, two errors in the first inning put the Panthers behind one run. A nice offensive answer in the bottom of the first inning put up four runs to take the lead. The Panther defense got themselves back on track starting in the second inning, making plays to get out of tough innings. The Eutectics were only able to score on weak-hit "bloopers" despite the Panther's tight defense. Tanya Marquardt had two nice relays from center field to catcher Lauren Daugherty to throw runners out at home plate and get the Panthers out of two separate innings. Defensive errors in the fifth inning cost the Panthers two runs, but the Panthers kept their composure and shut down the Eutectics to win the game.

After a four-run inning in the bottom of the first, the Panthers fell flat offensively. Despite some well-hit balls, the Panthers were unable to string enough hits together to widen the gap on the score board. The bats came back alive briefly in the third inning when the Panthers scored three more runs to secure the lead. Hits for game one go to Emily Hewitt with a double, Hannah Hathaway with a single and a double, Lauren Daugherty with a double and an RBI, Leah Schaefer with a single, a double and three RBIs, and Tanya Marquardt with a single and an RBI.

Game 2: Principia 1, Pharmacy 4
The Panthers started game two flat and with low energy. An error in the top of the first inning put the Panthers down one run. A nice answer offensively with a sacrifice fly ball by Lauren Daugherty gave the Panthers their only run of the game. The Panthers remained defensively sound for the rest of the game, but the offense was unable to put any more runs up. With only two hits in the game, the Panthers could not answer to the Eutectic's four runs. The Panther's two hits go to Lauren Daugherty with a single, and Genie Nyiramana with a single.

Up Next:
The Panthers will play their last game of the season and celebrate their seniors on Friday at home at 6:00 & 8:00 pm in a double header against Maranatha Baptist University.
