Carlinville, ILL. -- Principia women's soccer got their conference play off to a strong start with a decisive victory over Blackburn College.
Principia started the scoring in the 10th minute with a goal coming off a corner kick.
Brittany Ouellette sent a beautiful ball in and
Sarai Marcano had a powerful header that found the back of the net. The Panther's second goal came later in the half from midfielder
Maddie Wann. Madi Arens found a wide-open Wann who launched a beautiful shot, beating the keeper high. Those two goals would be the score going into halftime.
The second half proved to be an even better half of play for Principia. Dominating and executing with more precision and pace, Principia put two more goals away. Marcano had a second goal when she was slotted and found herself one-on-one with the keeper and she put the ball in the corner. Ouellette was able to go high on the keeper herself and finished off the scoring at 4-0.
One of the biggest differences today was in the defensive line, led by fearless
Kiona Sperr and
Tara Adhikari, who stepped well and hard on attackers despite their respective size differences.
Hannah Hathaway posted the shutout.
The Panthers face off against Fontbonne University in St. Louis on Tuesday.
