Principia Softball claims two wins over the Harris-Stowe Hornets

Elsah, ILL. -- After a rough ending to last night's game, the Panthers put those games behind them and came out firing, taking two wins from Harris Stowe.

Game 1: Principia 7  Harris Stowe 6
The Panthers had a bit of a rough start on defense with Harris Stowe putting two on the board right off the bat. There were some strong winds tonight and the outfield had a hard time tracking the balls and making routine catches. Aside from the first inning, the Panthers held the Hornets off from scoring until the 5th and 6th and in the 7th inning, making it a close game. Leah Schaefer had a great game on the mound with four strikeouts. The Panthers held them off in the last inning to take the win.

The Panthers did not get on the board until the third inning. Elise Doyle got the Panthers going with a single, then Christina Redington, Delaney Gatine, Alyssa Hudenburg, Hannah Hathaway, and Lauren Daugherty all had singles, bringing around their teammates and getting four on the board. Alyssa, Lauren and Hannah were all three for four at the plate and Christina was two for three. Even though it took the Panthers a few innings to get their bats going, they didn't give up and battled all the way through the seven innings.

Game 2: Principia 10 Harris Stowe 6
The girls were so fired up after the first game that they were ready to play the second one- but so was Harris Stowe. The Hornets put two on the board before the Panthers shut them down. Leah Schaefer had another great game on the mound with five strikeouts. The Panthers made their adjustments from the first game and did not let Harris Stowe score more than two runs after the first inning.

The Panthers replied right away, scoring multiple runs in back-to-back innings. Christina Redington led the team with three hits out of her four times at bat, with Delaney Gatine and Genie Nyiramana each having two hits of their own. Lauren Daugherty added a double to the Panther's offensive efforts. After the second inning, the Panthers did not score again until the fourth inning, where they only scored once but were able to hold off Harris Stowe from making a come back and took another win from the Hornets.
