Jacksonville, IL. – The Women's Basketball team traveled to MacMurray for a SLIAC Conference game, but due to water problems, the game was moved to Illinois College. Due to moving to a new venue, live streaming was not available for this game. In the first quarter the Panthers were closely following the Highlanders 12-14. By halftime MacMurray went ahead by a score of 26-38. Principia played tenacious defense, but fouls began to add up. MacMurray outscored Principia by 8 in the 3
rd quarter.
Nikki Matters had to leave the game at the end of the 3
rd quarter and
Maddie Wann was unable to play. There were no subs for the last quarter of the game. Four players for the Panthers had four fouls going into the 4
th quarter, which made it tough to defend the drives.
Madi Leslie fouled out with approximately 2 ½ minutes in the 4
th quarter forcing Principia to play with only four players. The coach from MacMurray offered to also play with only four, but the refs said they had if they had eligible player on the bench, they must play. It was a nice sportsmanship gesture on behalf of MacMurray.
Good to Know:
Sophia Hathaway led in scoring with 24 points and she had 9 rebounds.
Beka Petersen had 10 points and
Madi Leslie had 8. Before having to leave the game early, Nikki scored 8 points. Nikki also had 7 rebounds.
They said it:
"It was a great first half and it is unfortunate that Nikki was unable to finish the game and
Madi Leslie fouled out. It was
Madi Leslie's and
Beka Petersen's best offensive performances of the season. Everyone contributed. We look forward to playing MacMurray in February." Coach
