Volleyball Takes Two in Straight Sets

The Principia College volleyball team played Westminster College first in a SLIAC Tri-match, and grabbed the victory in 3 straight sets 25-14, 25-16, 25-13. Principia had 4 very effective hitters, with Hannah Richards leading the pack with 17 kills (.471), Anne Goodrich-Stuart with 12 kills (435). Middle hitters Hillary Moser and Kiersten Andersen had a great outing. Hillary put down 8 kills out of only 11 attacks leading the team hitting .636. Kiersten tallied 5 kills out of 10 attacks, hitting .500.

Defensively, Principia was moving well and showing some “D” desire. Libero Teddye Shaffer picked up 16 digs,and Goodrich-Stuart and Richards each had 13. Setter Tara Edwards added 8 digs and 30 assists to the effort.

In the second match of the day Principia beat Blackburn College in 3 straight sets 25-13, 35-8, 25-16. The team was aggressively serving with a purpose, and showed good progress in their offensive options. 

Richards hit 13 kills at a .526 clip, and Kendall Schier put down 4 kills out of only 8 swings (.500). Hillary Moser was a wall recording 5 blocks against the Beavers.

Principia is now 7-4 (2-0 SLIAC) and takes on Greenville College in their home opener Tuesday September 22, 7pm at Hay Fieldhouse.
