Poway, CA. -- The Panthers faced University of Saint Katherine on Monday in their second double header of the season. While the weather was nice, the Panthers couldn't quite catch up to the Saint Katherine offense.
Game 1 -Â Principia loses 12-0
The Principia Panthers came out eager to play in the beautiful 68 degree weather, but quickly fell behind against an aggressive Saint Katherine offense. Mental and physical errors seemed to get the best of the Panthers again, which cost them several runs early in the game.Â
After an encouraging show of offense in last Thursday's double header, the team couldn't quite seem to get their bats going today. With a total of three hits for the game, Hannah Hathaway and Lauren Daugherty each had a single, and Leah Schaefer had a double. The Panthers were unable to get any runs across the plate, leaving 3 runners on base.
Game 2Â - Principia loses 11-0
After a disappointing game one, the Panthers came out for game two with more clarity and focus. Mental and physical errors were reduced, and the defense showed more of what they are capable of. However, despite the better defense, Saint Katherine offense found the gaps, and had 5 runs in the first inning, making it tough for the Panthers to come back.
With only two hits in the game and four runners left on base, the Panther offense couldn't get a run across the plate. The two hits for the game go to Emily Hewitt and Leah Schaefer who each had a single.
Today's double header was Principia Softball's second set of games for the season. The Panthers are eager to continue to iron out the kinks and come back tomorrow to face University of Saint Katherine for a second time.
